A small detail, a large story

The dove and olive branch get one verse in Genesis 8, almost an afterthought after forty days of rain — and they've outlasted nearly every other detail of the flood story as a standalone symbol. That's its own kind of edge case: the smallest moment in the narrative became the one everyone still recognizes on sight.

Rendering the dove as something part-bird, part-machine — glowing seams instead of feathers, the branch lit like it's carrying its own power source — keeps the gesture legible while making it strange enough to look at twice. The people on deck aren't reacting to a bird. They're reacting to a signal.
