Alien encounters in pop culture are almost always staged as conflict, invasion, or cold clinical observation. This page is interested in the much rarer register: two non-human figures, doing something as small and human as holding hands by a pond, with no plot attached to it. The premise is fantastical; the emotional content is completely ordinary, which is exactly why it lands as sweet rather than strange.

Painting it like a Monet — soft dappled light, loose visible brushstrokes, mist standing in for the famous haystack-and-cathedral atmosphere — does most of the work. Impressionism was always about mood over detail, and a tender, low-stakes moment between two unfamiliar figures is mood from start to finish.
